Feeding your chao is actually very simple. When you first enter the garden, there are three trees -- all of which hold three fruits. You shake the trees by pressing the B button, and shaking the control stick back and forth. However, the fruits will not fall off (or even begin to shake) until they are big enough. A chao that can water trees will speed up the process, as does constantly shaking the tree. Once a fruit falls down, pick it up, and walk over to a chao. The chao will automatically take it and get a heart above its head, if it's a full fruit. Your chao slowly gains stamina points by eating any kind of fruit. Some fruits have different effects than others.A good way to make sure that your chao have something to eat while you're watching television or something, is to take all of the fruits off of all of the trees, and put them in a big pile, in the middle of the garden. Then, while standing in the middle of the pile, whistle for all of the chao to come to you. Pay them no attention -- they will eat eventually.
