"Mating" Chao is when you breed two chao, and based on the type of the chao you bred (excluding alignments and attributes), you will get a new form of chao. For example, mating a regular chao with a blue chao usually results in a Blue Twotone. To make
sure your two chao mate, you must first have at least
one empty chao slot, meaning only seven chao at
most in your garden. Then, go buy two heart fruits. This is not required -- you can only buy one, but then the mating isn't guaranteed; with two heart fruits, they're guaranteed to mate. This will cost 600 rings--300 rings for each heart. Give one heart to one of the chao you wish to breed, and one to the other, and then they will mate. Another thing to check, for better breeding results, is to make sure that neither of the chao being mated have ancestors (parents, grandparents, etc). Also, mating two monotones (solid-colored chao), will only produce one of the monotones you have mated, unless ancestry is involved.
Note: Mating will
shorten your chao's life!
And that's really all there is to mating! You will notice the word "mate" used rather plentiful on this site, to learn how to get different breeds of chao.
